With the help of this website and of the public putting messages in the guestbook we may able to:
Create a better service and standards for the people of Burnley , Pendle and Rossendale.
Things I would like to see changed at the hospital are:
Out Patients
Patients/relatives able to park their car,
Staff not parking in Disabled Parking Bays,
Secretarial staff to be pleasant and wearing their ID Badges so you know who you are talking too,
Being able to see a doctor within a reasonable waiting time,
To be treated by the doctor as a Adult Human Being with a brain, not as a child,
For the doctor to have some knowledge about the drugs they deal with day in and day out,
For the doctor to read your notes fully before prescribing or commenting on any medication,
A&E
For reception staff to treat you courteously,
To be assessed quickly by a member of staff that understands your problem,
To be seen by a doctor within a reasonable time,
Nursing and medical staff to be caring of your situation even when you have been treated,
Patients not to be left on trolleys for long periods or in cubicles without a good reason,
If to be kept in on a ward to be transferred within a reasonable period of time,
If patient to be discharged, to ensure patients safety, dignity and not just shoved into a cold waiting area to wait for a taxi,
For staff to understand that the relative with the patient may be upset and stressed so to show some compassion.
Wards
Ensure staff don't just ignore a patient (when patient rings the buzzer or shouts for a nurse)
Protect patient's dignity at all times
Make sure the patient is safe at all times.
Staff must help patients when needed not just assume the patient is capable (especially in the elderly and confused at meal times)
Ward must be kept clean (No Bedpans or Bottles left at side of the beds for long periods)
Change bedding when needed not when the staff feel like it.
If patient requires extra bedding or pillows supply them to the patient (not give excuses).
Drug trolleys not left open and unattended in the middle of the ward.
Medication must be given on time by 2 qualified staff to prevent confusion.
In Maternity do not leave mother and baby apart for excessive periods as this can cause problem with bonding
Management
Do not threaten upset patients and relatives
Do be understanding of the person's situation
Do not ignore patient's letters and phone calls.
Do not just assume your staff are automatically right,
Do listen carefully of what the patients/relatives have to say,
Make doctors admit when they have made a misdiagnosis,
When doctors are proved wrong remove doctor's notes from medical records, to ensure patient safety,
This is only a small amount of problems I have come across in the past 6 years, no doubt you may know of more, if so please tell me and if you wish put a page on this site to let everyone know how you have been treated
I am willing to fight as long as it takes to get the hospital to improve it's standards, so lets rally together and let the hospital management know we are fed up of having a badly run hospital service and that we deserve better.
